Open Parliament Event Myanmar 2014

As part of Global Legislative Openness Week 2014 anchored by National Democratic Institute and the Chilean Congress, the Open Myanmar Initiative organized a two-day event at its office building on 20-21 July, 2014.

Experiences of parliamentary openness in Myanmar in successive eras shared by historian U Tun Aung Chain, ex-parliamentary secretary U Thu Wai and incumbent MPs U Thar Win (Union Solidarity and Development Party), Dr Aye Maung (Rakhine National Party), Daw Sanda Min (National League for Democracy) and Daw Nyo Nyo Thin (Member of Yangon Parliament) opened the event on 20 July, 2014.

Four panels - (1) Parliamentary Openness and CSOs, (2) Parliamentary Openness and Parliamentary Monitoring Organizations, (3) Parliamentary Openness and Open Data and (4) Parliamentary Openness and Media - were organized throughout the two-day event. The OMI is compiling a report on recommendations and calls for parliamentary openness by resource persons and participants during the event. The event was closed by the launch of the parliamentary monitoring report No. 3.
